This talk will cover the construction of Tarpon Cove in the Lake Worth Lagoon. It will highlight the beneficial reuse of lagoon-compatible sediment along with the utilization of shorebirds on the island.

Join us on March 20th for a special presentation from Kayla O’Brien. This talk will cover two research studies examining microplastics in the surface waters and sediments of the Lake Worth Lagoon.
Plastic pollution in the marine environment is a global occurrence. Microplastics have been documented in numerous marine systems and organisms. Coastal estuaries and beach systems are at high risk for microplastic pollution. The distribution, abundance, and hazards microplastics present in these marine environments is not fully understood but are widely recognized as needed to support efforts aiming to protect and enhance these extremely valuable marine systems.

On the heels of the 2021 Lake Worth Lagoon Management Plan update, you are invited to join us and other Lake Worth Lagoon stakeholders to learn more about the lagoon, its watershed and all of the factors that influence the health, management and restoration of this unique estuary.
The symposium will feature keynote speakers, individual talks, posters and a panel session addressing the most pressing and complex science issues the Lagoon is facing – now and into the future.

LagoonFest Fest takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Saturday, November 5. 2022, along Flagler Drive in downtown West Palm Beach.
It’s entertaining, free, and showcases a local treasure. LagoonFest celebrates everything Lake Worth Lagoon, one of the most picturesque waterways in The Palm Beaches.
Check out the exhibitor booths, see a live bird release, go on a kayak clean-up tour, do boat tours, have family fun in the kid’s zone, plus there are local beers and food. Remember, it’s free! Most of all, walk along Flagler Drive to see the stunning heart of Lake Worth Lagoon.
